The design portion of a typical Chicago kitchen remodel takes about 6 weeks on average.  It can take less or longer depending on the client’s decision-making process.  The construction phase varies in length of time depending on several factors.  We give a more detailed construction timeline estimate when we’ve had a conversation (or two) with the client and understand the scope of work and project goals.

The best materials for cabinetry include wood fronts with a plywood cabinet box.  The door can be solid wood of stile and rail or it can be solid or a veneer on MDF for a modern flat panel door.  Melamine flat panel doors are also popular.  The surface is very durable and the doors seem to hold up even though they’re often made of wood particle board.

The most durable products for countertops are quartz, an engineered product with a 90 plus percenrage of quartzite in it.  They tend to resist staining and allow for a light countertop in kitchens that will hold up to use.  Quartzite, marble and soapstone make beautiful countertops, though they may tend to stain or patina more and require more upkeep.

The cost of a high-end kitchen renovation can range from $40,000 to $200,000, depending on the size of the kitchen, its features, and the extent of the work being done. At the lower end of the range, a kitchen may receive relatively minor updates, such as refinishing the cabinetry and installing new countertops, a sink, faucet, and backsplash. Although the changes may be limited, the impact can be tremendous. A dated kitchen can be transformed into a stunning, up-to-date space without requiring a complete renovation. At the other end of the spectrum, a $200,000 renovation may involve completely gutting the existing kitchen and replacing it with an entirely new layout. Additional cabinetry may be added, plumbing locations changed, walls modified, flooring replaced, and top-of-the-line appliances installed. At this level, the sky is the limit.  Most luxury, full-scale kitchen renovations fall somewhere in the $80,000 to $120,000 range.
