Your kitchen cabinet color is what sets the tone for the entire home – and as they say, the kitchen is the heart of a home – so choose wisely! There is no right or wrong when it comes to picking a cabinet paint color. Choose something you think you can not only live with, but love for years to come. Let’s review some popular cabinet paint color trends for the kitchen and the rest of your home.
Old Favorites
Neutral Creams and White:
Classic white hues and creamy neutrals make for a completely timeless kitchen. This colorway will continue to trend, because it’s simply put “classic”. The all-white kitchen has been shown in countless magazine covers since practically the beginning of time – and is a trend that is here to stay. It is a color that one can use to achieve not only a modern kitchen, but also transitional, Santa Barbara, and even Mediterranean style home. A white kitchen and/ or bathroom appears larger when used in smaller spaces. Neutral creams and white will age gracefully. According to Architectural Digest, there has been one white paint color that has been in the number one spot for 10 years – “White Dove” Benjamin Moore. Try “Eggshell” by Behr for a warmer white that is sure to compliment any home. These neutral tones fit any and every style.

Gray is the New Beige
Looking for something other than white? According to online consumer reports, there has been an increased popularity of earthy tones such as soft gray for 2019. Gray paint colors (and colors with gray undertones) create a trendy, yet timeless and cozy rustic vibe. Benjamin Moore introduced the color “Metropolitan” this year along with 15 other hues, which they predicted would rule 2019. It’s described as, “A stylish gray with cool undertones,” says Andrea Magno, a color and design expert at Benjamin Moore. Try a refined blue-gray like “Oyster Bay” by Sherwin-William or a purple-gray such as “Grayish” by Sherwin Williams.

A pop of color:
You don’t have to go crazy here- the idea is a hint of color. This year, Pantone picked 16-1546 “Living Coral” as the color of the year 2019. It is “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.” Transform an all-white kitchen by painting the island cabinets this coral color to make a statement for the more bold folks. Try using “Hale Navy” if you are a little bit color shy, but still want to make a statement and pack a punch. It is both sophisticated and playful, and is classic enough to last through any trend. “Hale Navy” was one of the 15 hues Benjamin Moore introduced for 2019, and the company believes this moody, dark color have been on the rise this past year. According to interior designer Sara Ianniciello, “many people are beginning to incorporate colored cabinets in kitchens while moving away from all white cabinetry. Using deep or grey-washed blues and greens is in high demand.

Two Tone Cabinets:
Mix it up! The idea here is to have all upper cabinetry one color and, if applicable, all perimeter along with island cabinets in another color. A great color combination for this trend is a neutral grey and white. It is both visually appealing to the eye and trending. Try using “Conservative Gray” by Sherwin Williams on the perimeter and island cabinets. The warm mix of gray and beige will give just the right about of trendiness while keeping the kitchen looking sophisticated.
